MÓNICA: A VISIONARY LENS ON DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE
Born in Bogotá in 1981, Mónica Barreneche is a photographer, journalist, and curator whose career bridges visual culture, design, and architecture in Latin America.
After earning her degree in Audiovisual Media with a focus on Commercial and Professional Photography, she began her career in the editorial world, working with Rolling Stone and Soho. Later, she served as editor and creative director for luxury and cultural magazines such as Summus and Diners, where she refined her curatorial eye and editorial sensibility.
Her growing interest in architecture and design led her to create the digital division of AXXIS magazine, a turning point that inspired her to pursue a Master’s degree in Journalism at Universidad de los Andes.
In 2018, she founded El Buen Ojo (EBO), a content agency dedicated to producing high-end editorial and digital narratives about architecture and design in Colombia and Mexico. Through this platform, she has collaborated with leading studios, galleries, and media outlets, combining visual storytelling with journalistic depth.
Today, she is a contributor to Architectural Digest and other international publications, while also developing curatorial and cultural projects. She has curated spaces such as Design Room Colombia (ProColombia’s export program) and co-created Design House Colombia in collaboration with Estefanía Neme and NC Diseño Gallery in Bogotá. In 2024, she curated Cazar la Sombra, an exhibition dedicated to Colombian architect Guillermo Arias.
With extensive knowledge of the regional design ecosystem and strong ties across Latin America’s creative community, Mónica Barreneche has established herself as one of the most active voices in promoting contemporary design from the region—combining curatorial vision, cultural management, and visual storytelling with a distinctive and refined sensibility.
